Happy Friday! I for one am happy that it's Friday because that means no workmen will be in our home over the weekend except for the electrician tomorrow. Thankfully the bathroom reno has gone much more smoothly than the kitchen one!
How has your week been? Has it been hot in your neighborhood? We've had some hot temps, but not as hot as other areas of the country.
What did you think about this week's lesson? I truly needed the reminder that God is sovereign, and that he is our fortress who equips us with the Sword of the Spirit, which is His Word.
Here is this week's Psalm:
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;my hope comes from him.Truly he is my rock and my salvation;he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.~Psalm 62:5-6
I read this poem by Steve Garnaas-Holmes during the week, and I thought I would share it with you. It really doesn't have much to do with the lesson, but I thought it was sweet. There is a good lesson in it about noticing.
DandelionYou grow in a crack in the sidewalk, neither asking nor receiving hospitality.Spreading your arms outto what the city will give you of the sun, reaching your roots down unseen, patient among slabs and pipes and gravel, you find a way to nourish yourself. You gather yourself into this one simple blossom, not a big one, but yellow in a desert of gray. And what is it worth?A guy comes along, distracted, maybe troubled even, looking down.He stops, sits on a cement block, and stares at you. He tilts his headas if reading something. After a long timegazing at you he makes a single sound,"mm," and something that could bea smile comes to his face.He looks at the sky, takes a breath, gets up,and walks off, somehow different. You never know.

Thanks prayer warriors for all the prayers. It has been a hectic week. Lots of changes going on with my MIL now in Hospice. She is still able to move about with her walker on a limited basis. We would prefer her stay in bed but she is stubborn. She is weak from not eating but still refuses to really want to eat anything. That makes me a little nervous with how she is wanting to travel in the house. She does things when we are not with her. We have had two caregivers now that have quit because of my MIL and her not wanting any one in her home except me and my husband. She has to come to grips with the fact I cannot be her constant caregiver. Terry's sister is coming in this weekend and I am praying we can talk her into taking a leave of absence to be with their mom until the end. This will be a big prayer request. While this sister is close to her mom she does not want her own life inconvenienced in any way. So sad. It is exhausting being a caregiver both physically and emotionally. His mom has a very strong personality and it is "my way or the highway " but she has to come to acceptance that if she does not let caregivers come in and help her she will have to go into a hospice facility. So prayers are so welcome as we navigate what time she has left. I have never seen anyone that can go this long without much food to eat and only Manhattans in her diet. She is unbelievable with the stamina. I continue to ask God to take her and have her be at peace. It would be a welcome relief for Terry and I. We have been so challenged and stretch to the maximum. Thank you for your sweet caring hearts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am praying for all the requests.
Praying for you dear Kris. It is all very stressful.
Thank you all for praying for our military. Our Sam is currently at drill at Fort McCoy. He is now training young soldiers joining the Wisconsin National Guard. It is amazing to me and I am so proud of all that he has accomplished.
An update on his friends stationed in Kuwaiti, they are still there, helping with the attacks.
Prayers for all our military.
Have a blessed weekend.
Carla
Good Friday afternoon, prayer warriors. Kris, I can sense your exhaustion in your plea. This psalm is for you. I will pray your silence has an empathetic and not selfish heart. Carla, you must be so proud of Sam. May God continue to watch over him and all our troops. Keeping all prayer requests in mind. We had a family reunion with 6 of 8 siblings yesterday, which was quite emotional, as we hadn't seen our brother since his stroke last June. Praying he remains strong and stable as he & mybsil navigate changes of selling their home in WV and building a new home near their daighter in TX.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kris and Carla on the updates. My prayers continue for all of you dear friends.
ReplyDeleteMy brother is still not doing well and hasn’t eaten either. Thankfully his son came yesterday from Montana to be with him, and my sister finally got to sleep in her own bed last night. It is so hard on caregivers and my brother has been demanding. His daughter also came today who lives nearby. I’m praying…thy will be done, Lord.
This week’s psalm is so appropriate. It’s amazing how they just resonate so perfectly in our lives.
Ricki Jill, enjoy your time with your baby Starling, and safe travels to you and Trip.
Have a beautiful weekend dear friends.
Thanks for your detailed comments and prayer requests. I updated our list to reflect y'all's comments.
