Today's devo reminds me of Job 8:14:
"Their confidence is gossamer,    
a spider’s house their trust."
This was a terrible thing Job's friend said about him; let's pray that our hope isn't gossamer. 


"Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.' "
James 4:13-15

"Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart
And do not rely on your own insight or understanding."
Proverbs 3:5

"Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary

Basically what I take from this devo is that we are fragile, and our lives are like vapor.  Yet God is everlasting and loving, and he never grows tired.  He will give us strength; these verses do inspire confidence and hope.

We can lock people out and hide secrets, like Mr. Craven from the book, but there are no secrets from God.

Our God loves us and sees no fault in us: "He will no longer rebuke you."  Yes, he knows all of our secrets we hide away from the world, and he sees us as white as snow, as blameless.

One positive thing that's come from the pandemic is that it has given many of us more time to spend with Christ via Bible study.  This has been a blessing to me!


"Then Jesus said to his disciples: 'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.  Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?' "
Luke 12:22-26

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
    and he will establish your plans."

Although my planner has been rather blank since Mid-March, I am trusting that God will "establish my plans" as I commit and submit to him.

Speaking of light...
This was a fairly quick drawing I drew using a silverpoint stylus.  Silverpoint is literally silver, and it leaves its mark on paper that has been treated with silverpoint drawing ground.

It will tarnish in time to a pretty sepia-like color.

My mood today is sunny and bright!  Let your little light shine!

Sometimes the chaos in our own lives is of our own making.
Take my art studio, for example...it was one hot mess, but a thoughtful gift from a friend helped me better organize it so I can create and get work done.  She encouraged me to organize!  Thanks, Patti!


While I was cleaning and organizing the chaos called my art studio, I was reminded of this verse:
 "Let all things be done decently and in order."

If there is chaos and confusion in our world that isn't of our own making, thank God we can focus on Christ who enlightens our way.

What God said to Moses still baffles me and makes me giggle a little....and maybe it isn't supposed to make me giggle, but it does anyway.  I always felt sorry for Moses, telling his people: "I am has sent me to you."  I would have loved to have heard all their comments!

Not that we need yet another Bible verse to go along with this lesson, but I'm reminded of a verse shared I think during June in Jesus Calling:

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."
1 John 4:18

This verse has resonated with me more than just about any other one since I started this daily devo in May.  Although it doesn't really relate at all to today's devo,  praying for the new school year is still on my heart for all the kiddos, PreK-College.

This rose is in a pot on our deck.  It is called a Coat of Many Colors, and I thought it would be appropriate to post photos of it for today's devo.

This lesson really hit home for me.  I am the very definition of a helicopter mom, I admit.  I know I've put myself through unnecessary stress because I did not place our daughters in God's capable hands.  As school is starting back for both girls, I pray that God will bless their efforts and keep them on the path He has chosen for them.

Today is the first day of school for the children in our neighborhood.
Seeing the little ones in masks breaks my heart.  I pray that this nonsense will cease soon, and that the virus will be eradicated from this earth.

The pretty ribbon was hand-stamped by a sweet artist from California.  At least as Christians we know that our "Happily Ever After" is guaranteed.

Psalm 37:7 has been resonating with me lately.  So many evil people get away with crimes against children.  It has made it difficult for me to sleep at night.  I am waiting patiently, and praying for justice.

It's easier for me to trust God when I pray throughout the day.  I tend to pray more throughout the day when I begin my day with prayer.  I like to give God the best part of my day which is early morning.  What about you?  Do you have a special time of the day when you like to spend time with God?

Today's devo reminds me of the one from August 11th because both describe aspects of God's character beyond our comprehension.  Today's lesson focuses on God's almighty power, his timelessness and his steadfastness.

How wonderful are today's verses from Paul's letter to the Ephesians.  I'm sure it was as encouraging to them as it is to us today, although I'm having difficulty fathoming the depths of Christ's love.  What a wonderful thing to ponder!

Time spent with God's word is never a waste of time, and we shouldn't feel guilty when we choose it over other activities.   Psalm 119:105 is a favorite!
