One Thousand Gifts: Monday, Week Thirty-Four

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Friends!  I know it was yesterday, but it seems strange celebrating it on a Sunday, but maybe it's appropriate considering St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.  Did you celebrate?  Someone gave us some shamrock cookies.  That was the extent of our celebration!

Today is my grandmother's birthday.  She would have been 104 today (she passed December 1, 2019, just a couple of months short of her 100th birthday).

This week's lesson is entitled "bread grace," and I think it's a difficult read because Ann Voskamp's thoughts are all over the place in this one (even more so than her norm).  This isn't really meant as a criticism because I enjoy stream of consciousness writing.  I will need to read it several more times before I write Friday's post.

Here is this week's scripture:

Prayer Requests

  • URGENT FROM CARLA:  A local pastor is currently trapped in Haiti. Pastor Steven Svendsen.  Please pray for his safety and swift evacuation from this dangerous country.  (The Biden administration has stated that Americans are on their own in Haiti.)
  • Kitty's son-in-law Eric found out from his doctor that insurance has declined to pay for his upcoming surgery. The doctor is going to appeal, and keep him scheduled.  She asks that we pray insurance will agree to pay for this surgery for the brain implant for his cervical dystonia.
  • Sam is back to his monthly Drill schedule with the Wisconsin National Guard. Prayer request is for strength and wisdom. Longer drill periods have been set for this year.  Pray for the 157th!
  • A group of Wisconsin National Guard will be deploying to Syria. Please continue to pray for our military and military families.
  • Remember Rita's daughters in your prayers as they head into their spring semester of graduate studies while working full-time.  She is particularly concerned about their levels of stress.
  • Please pray for my friend Dawn who is fighting leukemia.
  • From Carla:  a local 57 year old truck driver was killed by an illegal. The illegal did not have any United States I.D. or a driver's license. He handed the deputies two I.D.'s from Mexico. Praying for the family of the truck driver, leaving behind a wife, children and grandchildren.
  • Kitty asks for prayers for Mike to get a job.

Please let me know if there are any new prayer requests or updates on older ones.
Have a lovely week!

Until next time...

Blessings!

  1. I also find Ann's stream of consciousness writing (that's the perfect label, btw) hard to grasp. I haven't read this week's devotion, but getting ready to.
I cannot believe how Biden's administration has failed American civilians yet again, this time in Haiti. And pretty soon our National Guard is going to be in dire straits, having to run to NYC, Eagle Pass and other areas just to help protect right here, let alone being deployed elsewhere. Praying for honest leadership, we need so desperately.

  2. Praying for the requests above. Kitty, we had a friend who had this happen to them regarding the insurance. Thankfully he WON!!! Sending prayers for just that!!!

Sam has just received word he has another extended Drill Date in April. He cannot tell us much... just that several teams will be deployed.

    Thank you!!!

  4. Thank you for writing how I’m feeling about Ann’s writing. I thought I was maybe the only one.
Thank you to Carla, for letting me know the outcome of your friend and the insurance. I will tell my daughter for some hope.
I’ll be praying for all and may you have a wonderful week.
